Tip Of The Week for 12/28/09

If you use Microsoft Outlook Express, our tip last week was to turn off the preview pane. The tip this week also relates to Microsoft Outlook Express. If you read emails in plain text you can avoid some of the major email based threats. Emails that are not read as HTML may not be as interesting to look at, but you can prevent viruses, worms and other threats from invading your computer!

If you know an email is safe you can uncheck the box to see the full HTML version of the email. (You also could leave the box unchecked and only check the box when you want to see the contents of a suspicious email.)

1. Open Outlook Express.

2. From the menu bar, choose Tools and then Options and then Read.

3. Put a check in the box marked "Read all messages in plain text". Click OK.
