If you use Microsoft Outlook Express, one of the most important things you can do to improve your security is to turn off the preview pane. It is well known that malicious code (viruses etc.) present in emails can be executed even by just previewing an email. For some reason Microsoft sets this as the default. Turn it off!

1. Open Outlook Express.

2. From the menu bar, choose View and then Layout.

3. In the Window Layout Properties screen, uncheck the box marked Show preview pane. Click OK.
